Handsome Ahmed, a local felucca sailor, is the main star depicted in my painting. We sailed the mighty Nile River on an Egyptian felucca, which are traditional Egyptian sailboats used to get to and from Aswan and Luxor. Ahmed accessorized his full length gown with a crystal bracelet and a simple long scarf. I wanted to capture his blissful facial expression when he tended to the sails of our vessel. During our journey, he closed his eyes several times to really take in the moment and feel the wind brush against his sun kissed skin. Anyone could see just how much this man loved to sail, and that this was his calling. Two paintings (24" x 18" and 12" x 9") serve as a memoir of my first visit to beloved Egypt. This painting was selected as Bold Brush Jury's favorite 15% in 2020.
